From 1953 to 1956, trumpeter Buck Clayton recorded a series of studio jam sessions for Columbia showcasing the leader along with some of the most important swing masters, such as Joe Newman, Ruby Braff, Urbie Green, Coleman Hawkins, Buddy Tate, Billy Kyle, Freddie Green, Walter Page, and Jo Jones, among many others. Presented here is the complete LP All the Cats Join In (Columbia CL-882), which was arguably the best of those Jam Session albums. “After hours”, a song from the same sessions that wasn’t included on the original LP, plus two jam session tracks featuring Woody Herman (originally issued on the 10” LP How Hi the Fi + Blue Moon (Columbia CL-6326), have been added here as a bonus.

This recording is part of the ClassicalMusicStore.co.uk heritage catalogue. The store is no longer trading, but you can find this title — and thousands of other classical and jazz recordings — at a specialist retailer.
